YURT CAMPS ALONG SILK ROAD

Yurt is the ancient felt dwelling of nomads. During time of Silk Road, yurts were safe shelter for travelers. Our company offers to make journey along historical places of Kyrgyzstan and you will be able to feel as one of the first discoverers of the Great Silk Road. After this tour you will recollect lakes Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul, ancient caravanserai Tash-Rabat, amazing nature and hospitable people of Kyrgyzstan.

   

Travel begins from Almaty city (apple's father, Turk.) to Lake Issyk-Kul (hot lake, Turk.) with sightseeing of unique canyons of Charyn River on the way. City-tour of Karakol (black hand, Turk.) includes visiting Dungan Mosque, the Holy Trinity Church and the museum of the great Russian traveler Nicolay Przhevalskiy. The travel continues along the south shore of Issyk-Kul Lake with visiting the famous Djety-Oguz (seven bulls, Turk.) Gorge. Arrival in the yurt camp on the shore of the lake, rest and excursion to mountains. Next day the travel will be continued to high-altitude Son-Kul Lake (last lake, Turk.).

   
 
Picturesque road leads over the Kalmak-Ashu Pass and blue bowl of the Son-Kul Lake appears in front of you. In summer time it can be seen many yurts of shepherds on the shore of the lake. Some of them of them will be your shelter for overnight. A chain of skiff tumuli is accessible for seeing in the East part of Son-Kul Lake. The last night in Kyrgyzstan - yurt camp in the Kara-Koyun Gorge. There is caravanserai Tash-Rabat (stone structure, Turk.) in uppers of the gorge. It is the biggest and only one construction of such type dated to XV century A.D. in Central Asia. Making the acquaintance of local shepherds. They will offer national felt handcraft, invite to visit their dwellings and taste tea and national drinks such as kumys and airan. On the way to the Torugart Pass (remote, difficult of access land, Turk.), to the left it is possible to see Chatyr-Kul Lake. The lake is located at the altitude of 3530 m. Not far from the lake the Ak-Sai Valley (white valley, Turk.) is located where the lowest temperature in Kyrgyzstan was registered: - 52°C. At the Torugart Pass changing the vehicle to the Chinese one.

Day 1: drive from Almaty to Karakol • Day 2: Karakol, drive to Jety-Oguz and to yurt camp on the shore of the lake Issyk-Kul • Day 3: Issyk-Kul Lake • Day 4: drive to Son-Kul Lake • Day 5: drive to Tash-Rabat Gorge • Day 6: Tash Rabat Gorge • Day 7: drive to Torugart Pass.
