Sulaiman Too


This mountain looks like five-head giant, strechted from west to east. The length is more than 1140 m, width is 560 m. The mountain, in origin, had sacral mean, the petrogliphs is a prove of it. On the flank of the hill there is a museum of the mountain history. Before the XVI century, the hill had name Bara-Kuh, than till the XX century – Tahty-Suleiman (throne of Solomon – turk.

In 2010, in the bottom of the hill, began the building of the “temporary houses” for civilians, who has suffered after the troubles in the streets of the Osh town. Historianes and culturologists warrying about this.

On the 1st of June, the representative of UNESCO in Kazahstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadjikistan ans Uzbekhistan, the director of cluster bureau UNESCO Sergey Lazarev presented to the President of Kygyz Republic Roza Otunbaeva certification of including the saint mountain “Sulaiman-Too” in list of international lagacy.

On the top of the hill we can find the mosque “Tahty-Sulaiman”. Historians telling that it was build in Babur’s time (was destroied in 1963 and restored in 1991); the mosque “Ravat-Abdullahan” was restored not so far ago; the monument of XVIII century and the building-hudjra, which called “Babur’s house”.

There are caves on the hill - “Chakka Tamar” and “Tepeunkur”. There is a Middle Age's bath-house in the east part of the hill. (XI-XIV). From south and north Sulaiman-Too suraunded by two canals.
